CockroachesOriental and German cockroaches are mostly found in the U.K:
Cockroaches are mostly nocturnal and spend the daytime hiding in cracks and crevices around such areas as sinks, drains, cupboards.
Infestations in buildings can occur from being introduced via egg cases or adults coming in on packaging, crates or laundry.
German cockroaches tend to favour more warm and humid conditions whilst Oriental cockroaches are found in cooler, less humid areas.
Cockroaches can spread diseases such as dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid and poliomyelitis.
A good standard of hygiene is imperative when dealing with a cockroach infestation as this reduces food and water intake and then increases their movement and improves opportunity to come into contact with insecticides used. Removing all access to harbourage is also of high importance.
Control of the insects can be obtained using various methods including monitoring pads and insecticides.
